AirAsia will offer region-wide ASEAN Pass

Sunday, 23 Nov, 2014 0

Budget carrier AirAsia will offer a region wide air pass allowing customers to visit up to 10 destinations in Southeast Asia.

The AirAsia ASEAN Pass will be valid for one month’s travel and priced at RM499 excluding all airport taxes.

The pass will be available for sale from January 15 and more details will be announced early next year, said chief executive Tony Fernandes.

The airline said it would be capacity controlled and validity starts from the date of the first flight taken.

Fernandes called it a ‘catalyst’ to attract foreign visitors to travel more in the region and give Air Asia a timely boost following a drop in profits for the third quarter of 2014.

Although still a dominant force in the regional market, Air Asia is under pressure from rival low cost carriers with competition likely to increase further with the introduction of the ASEAN unified economic community next year.
