Malaysian-based long haul, budget carrier AirAsia X has confirmed it will extend its network with four non-stop weekly services between Kuala Lumpur and Christchurch from April 1 next year.

Tourism New Zealand chief executive Kevin Bowler said the new service is “great news for New Zealand”.

“AirAsia X flights will open up routes and connectivity to New Zealand not just from Malaysia, but from India, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, China and London via AirAsia X’s Kuala Lumpur hub,” he said.

AirAsia X will fly new A330 aircraft between KL and Christchurch, offering ‘Premium FlatBed seats’ with standard business class specifications.

Special seat offers go on sale from December 3-5 for the travel period April 1 to November 10, 2011.
