Airbnb and NYC settle data sharing spat
Airbnb has settled its differences with New York City over sharing host data.
The long running and frequently bitter dispute seems to be over.
The two sides called a truce with Airbnb agreeing to drop its federal lawsuit.
The New York City Council will now revise the 2018 law requiring home-sharing platforms to disclose detailed data on all their listings and their hosts.
The law still stands requiring personal data like addresses and names of hosts, but will now only apply to listings that rent out their entire home or rent to three or more guests at any one time.
Instead of initially having to provide the data monthly, Airbnb will only have to share it on a quarterly basis.
"We have long wanted to work with New York City on an effective regulatory framework, including information sharing — this agreement achieves that," said Airbnb spokesperson Chris Lehane.
Airbnb filed the lawsuit citing data privacy concerns and got a preliminary injunction against the law taking effect in 2019.
