Airbnb joins UNWTO
To participate in UNWTO seminar on new business models
On May 11, Airbnb became one of 26 new affiliate members of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), an agency of the United Nations that promotes responsibility, sustainability, and universal accessibility in tourism.
The UNWTO describes affiliate members as companies (public or private), organizations, destinations, NGOs, educational institutions or bodies whose activities are related to tourism and which contribute to the UNWTO their knowledge and expertise to promote the development of tourism that’s responsible, sustainable and accessible for everyone.
The list of affiliate members, of which Tripadvisor is one, stretches to some 480 members in total.
Membership conditions are perfunctory and amount to a membership payment (in the region of £3000 and a written commitment to acceptance of the Statutes of UNWTO and commitment to the principles of the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism"
The board of the affiliate members programme is chaired by Consultants Ltd (CTICO) and the vice-chairmen a miscellaneous group of 23 travel-related companies.
