Airbnb rolls out new host cleaning initiative
Airbnb has launched a new set of standardized cleaning protocols for hosts.
To boost confidence in the cleanliness and safety of an Airbnb stay, the company is rolling out strict cleaning rules.
Starting next month, Airbnb hosts may not have a quick turnaround of guests and must leave a 24-hour buffer period after guests checking out and the next arriving to check in.
In addition CDC-recommended cleaning standards should be followed with ‘enhanced procedures and guidance on how to clean every room in a home.’
It includes a certification program.
"The host cleaning protocol will include specific information on Covid-19 prevention, such as the use of personal protective equipment, like masks and gloves for hosts or their cleaners, as well as disinfectants that are approved by regulatory authorities," the company said.
Hosts unable to source the required products or unable to meet these standards will have a 72-hour buffer before a new guest can check-in.
This period will be blocked automatically through the Airbnb booking system.
"Guests will be able to search for and easily identify Airbnb listings that meet their needs and expectations and are part of the program. Hosts will have access to expert-backed cleaning educational materials and will be supported to show that they take cleanliness seriously," Airbnb said.
