Airbnb to allow neighbors to post feedback

Saturday, 15 Mar, 2016 0
Neighbors living near Airbnb hosts irked by noisy short term guests will soon have an outlet to vent their frustration.

Airbnb said it will roll out a function for neighbors to submit comments online to its customer service team which will be reviewed by the company.

The new service was announced by Yasuyuki Tanabe, head of Airbnb in Japan, one of the home-sharing site’s fastest growing markets, which he said is being rolled out globally in the coming weeks.

There was no word on whether Airbnb customers would be able to view comments left by neighbors.

"One of the most important issues facing the sharing economy is how the people choosing to take part in it co-exist with those that aren’t. Our first step in this direction is to give neighbors the opportunity to comment or complain," Tanabe said.

Airbnb already has a US toll-free hotline for neighbors to pass on comments to the company.

"Most Airbnb hosts are sharing the home they live in and we give them tools they need to only welcome respectful travelers," Airbnb spokesman Nick Papas said in a statement.

"If issues do arise, we work with our community to try and resolve them."
