Airbus celebrates huge order from IndiGo
Indian budget carrier IndiGo has confirmed a huge new order for Airbus jets, potentially worth up to $33 billion.
Airbus says it is one of its biggest ever orders.
The order consists of new planes in the A320neo range, making IndiGo the world’s largest customer for the single-aisle jets.
It will be a mix of A320neo, A321neo and A321XLR aircraft.
"We are delighted that IndiGo, one of our early launch customers for the A320neo, continues to build its future with Airbus," said Airbus chief executive officer Guillaume Faury.
With this new deal, IndiGo has now ordered 730 planes from the A320 family.
Riyaz PeerMohamed, chief aircraft acquisition and financing officer of IndiGo said the airline has not decided what engines the jets will use.
That decision will be made at a future date as the airline has suffered significant performance problems with Pratt & Whitney engines on its A320neos.
