Airbus, Qantas collaborate on SAF development
Airbus and Qantas Group plan to jointly invest up to $200 million to develop a sustainable aviation fuel industry in Australia.
The partnership runs for five years and would offer a home-grown supply chain for Qantas and other airlines.
Qantas has, been sourcing SAF overseas.
Qantas has set a goal of using 10% SAF of its overall fuel needs by 2030.
Airbus and Qantas will work together to develop SAF and feedstock, known as the Australian Sustainable Aviation Fuel Partnership.
“This investment will help kickstart a local biofuels industry in Australia and hopefully encourage additional investment from governments and other business,” said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.
