Airline staff go on hunger strike
Kingfisher Airlines’ staff have begun a hunger strike at the company’s headquarters in Mumbai over unpaid wages owed since last August.
Around 70 employees are on an indefinite hunger strike near the domestic airport in Mumbai, reports Bloomberg.
They are demanding immediate payment of salaries which have been pending since last August.
Airlines’ CEO Sanjay Agarwal is at the offices trying to persuade the employees to end the action.
The airline, which has been grounded since October, lost its licence to fly in December due to concerns about finances and safety.
Chairman Vijay Mallya has been promising a re-launch since February and in April the airline presented a new revival plan to Indian aviation authorities in a bid to restart operations, see previous story.
Authorities rejected an earlier revival plan submitted by the airline.
Various senior executives of Kingfisher Airlines, including its chief information officer, have recently quit the grounded carrier.
