Airline to double flights to Rio
TAM Airlines is to double its overnight, direct non-stop services between London and Rio de Janeiro, adding an extra three flights a week from August 2.
The new flights will compliment TAM’s existing daily overnight flights between London and Sao Paulo.
The airline, which introduced direct flights to Rio in August last year, said demand for extra services had been driven by both leisure and business passengers.
It said there are strong business links between the UK and Brazil, especially among the oil and gas industries, the banking and finance sectors and creative industries. Also, London and Rio will be the next two Olympic Games host cities and Brazil will stage the next FIFA World Cup in 2014.
Star Alliance partner bmi offers connecting flights to Heathrow from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Manchester, Belfast and Dublin.
