AirlineRatings adds Covid-19 health ratings
AirlineRatings.com has added coronavirus mitigation measures to its rating system for airlines.
The company rates the safety and in-flight services of 380 airlines globally and is now adding a set of new criteria for the Covid-19 era.
It aims to give passengers confidence in an airline’s ability to keep them safe.
The new criteria is based on passenger health and each airline must meet certain criteria to get a Covid-19 compliance star.
It must pass four of six criteria: easily accessible website information on their Covid-19 procedures; face masks for passengers; PPE for crew; a modified low-touch meal service; deep cleaning of aircraft and onboard social distancing.
"It was concerning to find than many airlines did not appear to comply with the Covid-19 agreed standards for protection of passengers and crew. That is changing and our team is reviewing compliance on a weekly basis," said Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas.
AirlineRatings.com says it has also revamped its safety ratings system to include serious incidents and crashes when rating an airline’s operational performance.
It says it has looked at 11,000 serious incident reports since 2015 to award an incident rating for airlines.
