Airlines in the pink for Mardi Gras
SYDNEY – What is it about Sydney and pink?
Last weekend the Cunard liner Queen Victoria was lit up in pink light to launch Australia’s breast cancer charity appeal.
Now Air New Zealand’s Pink Flight from Auckland to Sydney (for this Saturday’s Mardi Gras Parade) has sold out.
Air New Zealand has also for the first time put on two connecting pink flights from Wellington and Christchurch.
The in-flight entertainment on the service to Sydney will include pink cocktails and a drag queen from Auckland called Buckwheat. The flight will have a Studio 54 theme.
Not to be out-pinked, Virgin Blue will have an Up Up and a Gay flight DJ857 from Melbourne to Sydney on Thursday afternoon.
Virgin Blue will be deploying its drag queen cabin crew member Ms Marion De-Pilot on the service.
As the official carrier for Mardi Gras, Virgin Blue will have its own float in the main parade event on Saturday evening.
