Airlines issue waivers, free flights for Las Vegas travel

Friday, 03 Oct, 2017 0

All major airlines are offering free changes or refunds on travel to Las Vegas after the worst mass shooting in modern US history.

Some carriers are even providing free flights for people directly impacted by the Route 91 Harvest country music festival tragedy.

At least 58 people are now confirmed dead with hundreds wounded.

American Airlines, Southwest Delta Airlines and Alaska Airlines said flight change waivers are valid through Tuesday while United Airlines will allow changes through Friday this week.

Vegas-based Allegiant Air has offered to fly relatives of victims to Las Vegas for free.

Allegiant spokeswoman Hilarie Grey said families should email Allegiant at [email protected] so the airline can make appropriate arrangements.

Allegiant is also offering a flight waiver.

Another local airline, medical flight charity Miracle Flights will also fly relatives to Vegas from anywhere in the US.

"This senseless loss of life happened in our own backyard. As residents of Las Vegas, our families and our friends are personally affected by Sunday’s tragedy, but we know that so many of the victims were here in Las Vegas from out of town," said Miracle Flights CEO Mark E. Brown.

"Though we typically fly patients for medical reasons, our overall goal as an organization is to alleviate the financial burden of travel for families in crisis, and this fits within that mission."

The city’s McCarran Airport, which is situated close to the shooting location has resumed full operations after a temporary ground stop was imposed.
