Airlines mandate masks on NSW flights
Face masks are now mandatory for flights to and from New South Wales.
State regulations are now in effect for masks on public transport in Greater Sydney and Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia are making t mandatory on all NSW flights.
However NSW’s Department of Health hasn’t disclosed whether the normal fines of $200 will be imposed on airline passengers who refuse to wear masks, as is the case on ground transportation.
State Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced face masks must be worn in shopping centres and indoor entertainment venues, as well as public transport in Greater Sydney, Wollongong and the Central Coast.
For months Qantas and Virgin Australia have provided each customer with a face mask to wear aboard flights but hasn’t made it compulsory until now.
Only regional carrier Rex has forced all passengers to wear masks on all flights, a policy it brought in back in May 2020.
Passengers flying to and from Melbourne have been required to don masks since July.
