Airlines resume some flights to Brussels

Airlines are beginning a phased reintroduction of flights to Brussels Zaventem airport, with British Airways and Ryanair resuming some flights from the UK to the Belgian capital tomorrow.

Regional UK carrier bmi has resumed evening flights to Brussels from Newcastle and East Midlands, but its morning flights are still not operating.

EasyJet has resumed flights between Geneva and Brussels but flights from all other destinations, including the UK, are continuing to divert to Lille airport.

BA said it will be operating a reduced schedule to and from Zaventem for several weeks from tomorrow.

There is currently no public transport to or from the airport and passengers are being warned they will need to comply with additional security measures.

"The airport is currently operating at reduced capacity and has a range of increased security measures which customers using the airport must comply with if they wish to travel," said BA.

Passengers must have a printed boarding card or printed travel itinerary to enter the temporary airport terminal which has been created following last month’s bombings.

"If you cannot produce this documentation you will not be allowed to fly.’¨’¨Please do all you can to check-in online via ba.com before coming to the airport and print all of the relevant documentation," said BA.

It said it has disabled the ability to use mobile boarding cards on all flights from Brussels for the coming weeks.

Passengers are also being asked to arrive two hours before departure and to keep hand and hold luggage to a minimum as there will be additional security checks.

"All customers and their baggage will go through initial security screening in the temporary facility.

"There will be further security screening once customers arrive in the main building as they make their way to the aircraft."

There is currently no lounge facility for customers travelling in BA’s Club Europe or who hold a Gold/Silver Executive Club status.

BA is allowing passengers who no longer with to travel before Sunday April 24 to rebook for a later date or an alternative destination, as long as their booking was made before April 5.

It said flights from April 25 are still under review.

The airline will cease offering alternative flights to Liege from this evening.

Ryanair said all its flights to Zaventem will resume tomorrow, with the exception of services from Berlin Schonefeld, Dublin, Palma, Venice Treviso and Malaga, which will continue to operate from Brussels Charleroi up to and including April 19, although the first daily flight each day has been cancelled.
