Airlines unite to take on Hammond
Airlines will join together today to meet with the new Con-Lib coalition’s transport secretary Philip Hammond to ask for compensation after the ash cloud debacle.
Representatives from British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2, BMI, Monarch, Flybe plus Thomson and Thomas Cook’s airlines will travel to Whitehall to demand clarification about the ash cloud situation and tell the minister that there was a huge overreaction to the cloud.
They say airlines should not bear the brunt financially of decisions made by others, including the Civil Aviation Authority.
The group of carriers also wish to discuss a rethink on airlines having to pick up the tab for the cost of stranded passengers who fall victim to the “denied boarding” rules.
