Alaska Airlines IT outage causes network-side ground stop
A sudden ground stop was declared across Alaska Airline’s entire mainline network over an IT outage.
Alaska Air and Horizon Air flights experienced a major issue late Sunday night local time.
The airlines haven’t given specifics about the outage or what systems were impacted.
The FAA confirmed Alaska Air requested the ground stop and says the issue has now been resolved.
It lifted the ground stop in the early hours of Monday.
“We experienced an IT outage that resulted in a temporary, system-wide ground stop for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights,” the airline said.
Although it happened during a quiet period for flight traffic, it could still have an impact for some early Monday services.
“As we reposition our aircraft and crews, there will most likely be residual impacts to our flights. It will take some time to get our overall operations back to normal,” the airline said.
“We apologize to our guests for this inconvenience.”
