Alaska Airlines scrapping Havana service from LAX
Alaska Airlines will end its daily service form Los Angeles to Havana, Cuba in January.
The carrier said the route was already underperforming before the Trump Administration imposed new restrictions on Cuba travel last week.
That was the final nail in the coffin for the service.
The final Havana flight takes off on January 22.
"Travel is about making connections, and we were honored to have played a role in helping people make personal connections by traveling between the U.S. and Cuba," said Andrew Harrison, chief commercial officer.
"We continually evaluate every route we fly to ensure we have the right number of seats to match the number of people who want to go there."
Alaska passengers booked on flights to Havana after January 22 will be re-accommodated on other airlines or offered a full refund.
The airline said about 80% of its market was for independent travel under the permitted ‘people-to-people’ program.
That allowance for individuals was scrapped by the government last week.
