Alila Mayakoba, a new soulful luxury retreat on Mexico’s Riviera Maya
Hyatt Hotels Corporation and RLH Properties have opened Alila Mayakoba, a luxury resort on Mexico’s Riviera Maya. The launch marks the debut of the Alila Hotels and Resorts brand in Latin America and the Caribbean, bringing its wellness-driven, nature-focused philosophy to a beachfront setting.
Located within the Mayakoba resort community, the 60-acre property blends Caribbean shoreline, lagoons, and jungle landscapes. It features 182 guestrooms, suites, and villas—many with private pools—alongside six dining venues and Spa Alila, which draws on Mayan traditions. The design emphasizes open-air architecture, natural materials, and a strong connection to the surrounding environment.
General Manager Patrick Schori said the goal is to create a calm, immersive experience where guests can connect with the destination’s natural beauty and cultural richness. The resort balances two atmospheres: tranquil lagoon-side spaces suited to couples and wellness travelers, and a more relaxed beachfront area designed for families.
Nearly 40% of accommodations are suites, including a beachfront Presidential Suite. Interiors by Huber Design incorporate local materials such as tropical hardwoods and limestone, with furnishings created in collaboration with regional artisans. The overall aesthetic blends indoor and outdoor living, reflecting the textures and tones of the Yucatán Peninsula.
Wellbeing is central to the guest experience. Developed with local practitioners and Mayan elders, the resort’s wellness program is rooted in cultural authenticity. Guests are welcomed with traditional rituals, including a coconut water and honey beverage and a cleansing ceremony inspired by ancestral practices.
Signature “Alila Moments” experiences include guided rituals such as clay-based purification, cenote visits, and water blessing ceremonies led by Mayan elders. Spa Alila expands on this approach with treatments aligned to the sacred Tzolk’in calendar, as well as offerings like temazcal ceremonies and sound therapy designed to promote relaxation and balance. A Technogym-powered fitness center provides personalized training based on each guest’s wellness profile.
Dining is equally place-driven, with concepts ranging from beachfront casual to chef-led tasting experiences. Highlights include Casa Amate, known for its refined interpretation of regional cuisine, and El Huerto, a 12-seat chef’s table focused on zero-waste, farm-to-table dining. Other venues showcase local flavors, street food classics, and wellness-oriented menus, complemented by tequila and mezcal-based cocktails.
The resort also caters to events and celebrations, offering beachfront and lagoon-side venues for weddings and gatherings, all designed to reflect the natural setting.
Alila Mayakoba represents a key milestone for the brand, delivering culturally rich, wellness-focused experiences aligned with its global identity. RLH Properties CEO Luis Duran added that the opening strengthens Mayakoba’s position as a leader in sustainable luxury hospitality in Mexico.
