All Israel air travel shuts down
Travel to Israel is effectively cut off from the outside world.
Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport remains closed to all flights and will continue to do so ‘until further notice,’ Israel officials said.
It follows air strikes on Iran.
Israel’s three main airlines including El Al moved their fleets and flight crew out of the country to avoid them from being targeted in retaliatory air attack.
Several other foreign airlines have canceled flights to and from Israel, and across the region.
Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia suspended flights to multiple countries – Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
As well as Israel, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Syria have closed their airspaces.
At the outset, dozens of flights were forced to turn around or reroute as airstrikes began.
Local media says Ben Gurion Airport will likely stay closed beyond the weekend.
