Almost 600 domestic million trips taken for Chinese New Year
China’s great Lunar New Year holiday exodus hit a new record.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism reported almost 600 million domestic trips were taken during the nine-day holiday.
The 596 million trips is an increase of 95 million on last year’ holiday period.
Domestic tourism related spending was also a record high at 803.5 billion yuan (about $115 billion).
Although only a fraction of the total, the number of international tourists coming to China to experience the Spring Festival celebrations is growing, the ministry said.
