Aloft hotel offers room service via emoji

Wednesday, 22 Oct, 2015 0
For the hotel guest too busy, tired or lazy to actually text a room service request, Aloft New York has you covered.

It is offering the ability to request room service via emoji with a menu of bundled packages such as snacks, a phone charger, toiletries and more.

The six emoji ‘Text it, Get it’ packages include ‘The Hangover’ cure comprising vitamin water, Advil pills and a two bananas, and ‘The Sightseer’ which features a $10 MetroCard, map and complementary drinks at the hotel bar.

There is even a ‘Surprise Me’ gift package promising ‘fun swag and cool stuff.’

Guests simply have to text the relevant emojis along with their name and room number.

"Our guests can now talk to us like they talk to each other," said Paige Francis, vice president of global marketing for parent company Starwood Hotels.

The service is being tested at Aloft’s Manhattan hotel at the moment and if it proves a success there are plans to expand it throughout the US and overseas.

"We look to consumer behavior and think about how to integrate these trends into the Aloft experience. The rise of emoji was a logical next step, the perfect new wave of guest communications," said Brian McGuinness, global brand leader, Starwood specialty select brands.
