Amadeus claims UK e-ticketing ‘milestone’
All business class carrier Silverjet has become the 150th carrier to implement e-ticketing for Amadeus users in the UK.
The GDS has added a total of 30 airlines, including Malaysia Airlines, Flybe, and now Silverjet in the last six months.
Amadeus claims to have enabled e-ticketing for 247 airlines in 146 markets. Its figures show that globally, 87% of tickets issued through the system are now electronic.
UK and Ireland marketing director Elaine Seeto said: “We are extremely proud to be working with such a large number of airlines that have succeeded in meeting IATA’s 100% e-ticketing deadline of May 31, 2008.
“One hundred and fifty airlines represents around 82% of all UK BSP carriers so this is a significant milestone for travel agents and for their customers who benefit from a more streamlined airport experience – including the facility of self-service check-in where offered.
“Our e-ticketing solution also allows agents to minimise costs by reducing paper usage and storage whilst enabling significant cost-savings on delivery charges for last minute tickets.
“E-ticketing also enables agents to offer a paperless solution, resulting in a more environmentally-friendly operation.”
