American Airlines going cash-free at Cancun Airport
American Airlines says Cancun International will be its next cash-free airport.
From August 20, AA will no longer accept cash payments for airline tickets or checked baggage at the airport.
Only credit and debit cards will be accepted.
The move will speed up staff interactions with passengers, says general manager Alfredo Jaimes.
"At the global level, American is in a transition phase. At each of the airports where we operate cashless transactions, we are allowing our team members to help our clients in a faster and more efficient way."
"Moving away from cash transactions also reduces the complexity of work for our agents."
American began transitioning to a cashless model last year and has initiated cash payment restrictions at several airports including New York’s JFK and LaGuardia airports, Los Angeles, Miami and Dallas Fort Worth.
It will also roll it out in Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel in the future.
