American Airlines inspecting plane that made three emergency landings in three days
American Airlines and officials at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport are investigating after a plane had to make emergency landings at the airport for three consecutive days.
On Saturday a Charlotte-bound service had to return shortly after take-off after a smell of smoke was detected in the cabin
It was taken out of service, inspected and then cleared to operate again.
However, the same thing happened twice again over the next two days with the same aircraft.
American’s affiliate on the route Piedmont Airlines says the Embraer 145 jet is still out of service and is scheduled to be flown to the Salisbury Regional Airport maintenance base for a more detailed inspection.
Roanoke airport officials described the spate of incidents as very unusual.
