American arrested in Thailand over death of Australian tourist
An Australian tourist has died after being stabbed by another tourist in Thailand.
An American tourist is in police custody accused of the killing, local police say.
The 35-year-old from Perth WA was stabbed in the chest and taken to hospital but later died.
The incident happened outside a bar in Krabi.
Thai police detained a 43-year-old American and charged him over the killing.
Police said there was an argument between the two men who did not previously know each other.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing assistance to the victim’s family.
“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time,” DFAT said.
