American begins Qatar Airways codesharing partnership
American Airlines recently kicked off its new codeshare partnership with Qatar Airways.
It follows the signing of strategic partnership in February.
Qatar Air is progressively placing its code on AA’s domestic flights, offering better connectivity for its customers.
The codeshare pact will eventually cover more than 1,000 American domestic flights.
Phase one sees through ticketing via Chicago and Dallas to 200 cities including Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Detroit and San Francisco.
Subject to government approvals, additional destinations in Central America and the Caribbean will be added.
The two airlines agreed to codeshare again after settling their differences over a bitter dispute about ‘unfair’ state subsidies.
This pitched the US big three airlines against Qatar Airways and UAE carriers Emirates and Etihad.
"We are pleased that we’ve reached this important milestone with Qatar Airways. We look forward to welcoming Qatar Airways passengers throughout our domestic network," said American Airlines SVP of network strategy, Vasu Raja.
"This is just the beginning of a strong partnership."
American will place its code on Qatar Airways’ flights between the US and Qatar and both airlines will explore an opportunity for American Airlines operated flights to Doha in the future.
