American Cruise Lines planning Euro-style modern riverboats
European style riverboats could be about to make an appearance on US waterways.
American Cruise Lines says it plans to build ‘a new fleet of modern riverboats’ in a move away from the traditional paddlewheeler designs.
"The concept for the new riverboats will differ from that of the line’s existing paddlewheelers and coastal ships by offering a more contemporary approach to their design. We will add a new dimension to river cruising in the United States, and a wide selection of new river itineraries throughout the country." a statement from the company said.
The new sleeker riverboat design will have modern interiors and open deck to take full advantage of natural light, glass-enclosed lounges with panoramic views, and spacious staterooms boasting furnished balconies.
The new design concept will be in addition to ACL’s latest boat due to enter service this March, the American Eagle paddlewheeler.
The company said more details on the design concept and its expansion plans would be revealed in the coming months.
