American Eagle flight collides with deer on runway
An American Airlines regional jet was forced to abort takeoff after slamming into a deer on the runway.
The Embraer 145 plane with 42 passengers struck a deer at the Williamsport Regional Airport.
No passengers were injured but the deer was not so lucky – it was killed.
Airport executive director Thomas J. Hart said the buck likely got through or jumped a perimeter fence.
Only minor damage was spotted to the plane after an initial visual check but it was taken out of service for a full inspection, Hart said.
The passengers were rebooked on a later flight to Philadelphia.
The American Eagle branded service is operated for AA by subsidiary Piedmont Airlines.
