American to add JFK flights from Edinburgh
American Airlines will start a new daily service between Edinburgh and New York JFK airport next summer.
It will be the first time American Airlines will touch down at Edinburgh following the airline’s merger with US Airways.
Running from May 7 until September, the new daily flight will depart Edinburgh at 9:15am and arrive in JFK at approximately 11:45am (EST).
It will compete with United Airline’s existing twice-daily service to Newark.
Air Canada Rouge and United Airlines will also return to Edinburgh next summer with flights to Toronto and Chicago.
Scottish Transport Minister Keith Brown said: “We could attract more direct flights like this one to Scotland by cutting rates of Air Passenger Duty, something that we don’t currently have the power to do but which has wide support in the aviation industry.”
