American/US Airways merger may be delayed
The merger between American Airlines and US Airways, thought by many to be announced on Monday or Tuesday of this week, may be pushed back.
Boards of American Airlines’ AMR Corporation and US Airways are still hashing out internal organization of the potential merged airline and are delaying the final annoucement of the fusion, AP and other sources report.
AMR and US Airways Group are still debating the split of ownership and management roles, say anonymous sources close to the private negotiations. Although it is believed that US Airways CEO Doug Parker will run the company, the role of AMR CEO Tom Horton is one of the elements of the deal still at issue.
Many experts believe Horton will end up in the role of non-executive board chairman, probably only for about two years.
