Americans need to use their vacation days

Monday, 19 May, 2005 0

Americans are leaving behind 421 million vacation days this year, according to an Expedia.com survey.

Each US adult worker leaves an average of three vacation days on the table. Nearly a third of Americans reported they do not always take all of their vacation days.

But at the same time, almost half of those surveyed said they came back from a vacation rested and rejuvenated.

“This year alone, the value of vacation days that Americans are projected to give back is estimated at almost $54 billion,” said Kari Swartz, Expedia.com product manager for leisure travel.

So when Americans do vacation, where do they go?

All in the family, the survey found.

Almost a third of Americans say they spend most of their vacation time traveling with their immediate family, and 27% say they visit out of town family and relatives.

The country that earned the champion’s title for vacations was France, where adults get an average of 39 days vacation.
