Amtrak appoints another airline executive as new CEO

Monday, 03 Mar, 2020 0

Amtrak has named another former airline boss to succeed CEO Richard Anderson.

Anderson, a former Delta Air Lines CEO, will be replaced by William J. Flynn.

Flynn takes over on April 15 and joins from Atlas Air.

He spent 13 years at Atlas Air overseeing airfreight and military and passenger charter operations as president, CEO and board chairman.

Previously he worked at CSX Transportation, Sea-Land Services and GeoLogistics Corp.

"Bill is the right executive to lead us into the future. He brings a very long track record of keeping companies strong and building upon their strength," said Anthony Coscia, chairman of Amtrak’s board of directors.

Anderson stays on as a senior adviser to Flynn until the end of 2020.

Amtrak carried 32.5 million passengers last year, which is the highest ridership in its 40-year history.

Under Anderson’s leadership Amtrak has revamped its fare policies with airline-style rules such as change fees and non-refundable tickets.
