Anger over foreign plans for Concorde
Three of the five remaining active Concorde jets will be placed in “retirement homes” overseas when they are withdrawn from service next week.
According to a report in The Daily Telegraph, two of the jets will be situated in the United States – one in New York and one in Seattle – while another go to Barbados, where there are plans for a new aviation museum at the island’s airport.
The newspaper reports that the two remaining examples will be sited at Manchester Airport and Filton Aerodrome, near Bristol. The Telegraph, perhaps unsurprisingly, quotes Sir Richard Branson, who has long campaigned to keep Concorde flying commercially.
He reportedly said: “It is particularly disappointing that out premier aviation museum at Duxford seems to have lost out.”
