Another French transport strike looms
Flights, ferries, trains and buses all likely to be affected by threatened action
France is once again threatened by a public sector strike that could paralyse the country’s transport systems.
Transport unions are planning on returning to strike action at 7pm tonight (British time); trains, roads, ferries and flights are expected to be affected. Air traffic controllers have confirmed that they will join the strike action.
According to The Independent newspaper, Air France has admitted that it is expecting some disruption to short- and medium-haul traffic, though long-haul flights are not expected to be affected and the carrier has not yet revised its schedules.
If the action goes ahead it will be the third such strike in as many weeks; unions are protesting against French government plans to reform the country’s pension system. Further rail strikes are planned for 12 and 15 June.
