Ant infestation on United Airlines flight

Wednesday, 18 Jun, 2019 0

A United Airlines plane was taken out of service after landing at Newark due to an infestation of ants.

The transatlantic flight from Venice landed safely but was then taken away to be fumigated.

According to one passenger the ants may have crawled out of a bag in an overhead bin.

They were seen crawling across seats, seatback TV screens and windows for much of the nine-hour flight.

"We had been in contact with the crew during the flight, where they advised the ants were isolated from a customer’s bag in the overhead bin, and was contained to a limited area of the cabin," United said in a statement.

"The airplane landed at Newark and has be taken out of service for extermination. We followed proper protocol by notifying customs, immigration, as well as agriculture of the issue."
