ANTOR’s elects new Board
Australia’s Association of National Tourist Office Representatives in Australasia, held its AGM on 22 November 2006, with six current members: Gregg Anderson (Tourism New Zealand) , Andrew Clark (Hong Kong Tourism Board), Monica Nerney (Tourism Ireland), Jo -Anna Palmer (Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority) , Simonne Shepherd (Canadian Tourism Commission) and Jacqui Walshe (The Walshe Group), being re-elected.
New Board members elected at the AGM were: Janaya Birse (South African Tourism), Shanker Dhar (India Tourism), Satu Raunola (Finnish Tourist Board, Australia) and Michael McCormick (VisitBritain).
The following Officer Bearers were re-elected: Simonne Shepherd, Chair, Jo Palmer, Deputy Chair, Jacqui Walshe, Treasurer, Philip Thorniley, Secretary & Public Officer.
Philip Thorniley said: “We feel it’s a sign of the relevance of ANTOR that, for the first time, we have a full complement of Board members and we’re delighted to welcome three new members who we’re sure will strengthen the Board in what is seen to be a challenging year for tourist offices and DMO’s.”
“It’s also a pleasure to welcome back Satu Raunola, who has previously service with distinction on the ANTOR Board.”
He added, “One sadness about this year’s AGM was the absence of Dr. David Beirman, who became ineligible to serve, following the closure of the Israel Tourism Office”. “We will all miss the dedication and wisdom David brought to our deliberations over 6 years”
The AGM heard that the Association’s new website www.antor.travel is receiving an average of 20,000 page visits per month from Australian travel agents.
Although appointed as Secretary and Public Office, the uncertainty surrounding Philip Thorniley’s position as Executive Director as reported recently by the Mole is not clear with reports that the position has been put out to tender.
