AOL head of sales joins TripAdvisor

Online travel community TripAdvisor has appointed Martin Verdon-Roe to the newly created role of head of UK sales.

He joins from AOL where he held a similar position.

The role is part of a Europe-wide initiative aimed at enhancing TripAdvisor’s advertising proposition beyond the pay-per-click standard, according to the company.

Verdon-Roe said: “My job is to build a team that will concentrate on agency relationships, brand building, display advertising and sponsorships.

“TripAdvisor is the biggest travel media site in the UK and one of the top five travel sites overall.  We present a unique opportunity to communicate with a dynamic audience, most of whom are planning to spend.

“It is one of the few sites where pay-per-click and display can work well together and we will be targeting both travel and non-travel advertisers.”

Businesses already attracted to the TripAdvisor model include Visit Sweden, Tourism Ireland, TUI, Hilton, Land Rover and Charles Schwab.
