Are you ready for ‘bumper Monday’
British Airways Holidays is predicting more holidays will be booked on Monday January 7 than any other day of the year.
The Monday of the first full week back at work in the new year is always one of the busiest for bookings, however, after the UK’s summer of sport in 2012, and one of the wettest years on record, British Airways Holidays is expecting January 7 to be the biggest booking day.
However, Thomson predicted 20.45 on Sunday January 6 would be the busiest time for online bookings. On that day, it is expecting 2 million website searches for holidays and thousands of customers are expected to book within 24 hours.
British Airways Holidays claimed it had seen a 75% year on year increase in the number of holidays booked on Christmas Day and a 58% increase on Boxing Day.
The top destinations being booked include Orlando, Barbados, Las Vegas, Barcelona, Dubai and St Lucia.
City breaks topping the list include New York, Rome, Venice, Barcelona and Berlin.
Claire Bentley, managing director of British Airways Holidays, said: "We start of a new school term, signaling the need for families to have sunnier climes to look forward to.
"With such miserable weather over Christmas, we saw many people booking their holiday even before they would have sat down for Christmas dinner. On Monday we expect some people will be booking before their breakfast!"
