Ash is back, flights cancelled
Renewed volcanic activity on Mt Bromo in east Java forced Pacific Blue to halt flights between Australia and Bali last night.
The airline cancelled flights between Denpasar and Perth and Perth and Denpasar due to safety concerns, a Virgin Blue spokeswoman told The Age.
She said the airline was erring on the side of safety after the volcano reactivated. Affected passengers were given accommodation overnight.
Last month Mount Bromo came back to life after a yearlong lull, and yesterday reports from the area indicated that thick smoke was pouring from the crater.
