Asian Trails: Media is distorting the facts
Luzi Matzig, CEO of Bangkok-based Asian Trails, has used the company’s monthly newsletter to offer an on-the-spot assessment of the impact of Bangkok floods on visitors to the city.
He blames the media for distorting the true situation in the capital.
He says of the floods, “It is true that many hundreds of major factories and tens of thousands of houses were badly inundated during the past few weeks.
“However, it is also a fact that downtown Bangkok, the main temples, the hotels and shopping areas in the central business district have remained dry.
“Suvarnabhumi International Airport is fully open and Asian Trails operate transfers and even the city and temples tour without problems.
“All upcountry destinations like Pattaya, Hua Hin, Samui, Krabi, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai etc. function normally.
“In fact, our main problem right now is a distortion of facts by the media, particularly when watching CNN, BBC and TV5 etc., which make you believe that the whole of Bangkok is under water.
“So please encourage potential visitors to come and spend the year-end holidays in Thailand, which is magical at this time of the year with its festivities and special events.”
