At least eight people were killed yesterday  – and many more injured – when a wall collapsed at Dubai airport.

According to The Independent newspaper, as many as 40 people were taken to hospital when a metal reinforcement cage gave way, burying workers. T

he wall was reportedly part of a large extension to the airport, which is aimed at increasing passenger numbers at the airport from 22 million today to 60 million in 2018.

One worker is quoted as saying: “The wall fell down and we all ran to help, but there wasn’t anything we could do.”

The newspaper reports that most of the workers on the site are from India and Pakistan, and are employed by a UEA-British consortium called Al-Naboodah Laing.
