ATC computer glitch hits UK flights
Airlines were struggling to clear a serious backlog of flights after a computer problem suspended services from UK airports.
The glitch at the air traffic control centre at West Drayton hear Heathrow resulted in aircraft being grounded across the country during the early morning peak period.
The distruption caused delays of up to three hours being reported at Heathrow, which appeared to be amongst the worst hit airports.
Departures were held up across the country due to the ATC computer failure, although aircraft were landing as normal.
Other airports affected included Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Gatwick, Manchester and Newcastle.
Flights were returning to normal by 08.30 but passengers were being warned of considerable delays throughout the day.
