ATE shows off South Australia
South Australia’s tourism operators are showcasing the State’s brilliant blend of attractions at one of the world’s largest tourism trade shows in Perth this week.
Around 50 operators are represented at the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) and Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith will visit their displays during a brief visit today.
Dr Lomax-Smith spoke at a function for South Australia’s representatives last night and will meet with various national and international tourism publications to promote the State’s ‘brilliant blend’.
The Minister announced on Monday that South Australia has won the right to host ATE for the second time in 2010, thanks to a $1.5m funding injection from the State Government.
“ATE is the ultimate chance for our tourism operators to have direct access to the people who book holidays and recommend destinations to travellers,†Dr Lomax-Smith says.
“This is the largest international travel trade show in the southern hemisphere. Travel wholesalers from around the world attend to learn about the latest in Australia’s tourism industry.
“We hosted ATE in Adelaide for the first time in 2006 and kept the momentum going last year with a strong South Australian presence at this important trade show.
“This year, our tourism operators will continue to build on the relationships they have developed to further increase international tourism to our State.
“This event, together with marketing campaigns in key international markets, will ensure we continue to attract high-yielding visitors to experience the best we have to offer.
“The recent State Budget included funds for additional international promotion for our showcase event – the UCI ProTour Down Under – as well as for other marketing initiatives that put South Australia front of mind for visitors and tourism wholesalers on a worldwide scale.
“The fact that South Australia continues to match it with other states in terms of international visitors clearly indicates our international marketing strategies are hitting the mark, and ATE will be another chance for our brilliant blend of tourism experiences to go on show to the world.”
“There will also be about 50 international tourism journalists attending ATE who will report on what’s new in the Australian travel and tourism industry.”
“ATE will help generate billions of dollars in export earnings as a result of business generated at the event, positioning South Australia and Australia as leading holiday destinations.â€
