ATF: Malaysia raises concerns over tourism pact
Malaysia has raised concerns about aspects of the proposed 2011-2015 Asean Tourism Strategic Plan, which was ratified in Phnom Penh this week.
Malaysia tourism minister Dr Ng Yen said the document needed to be carefully studied, especially the parts that covered the freedom of workers in the tourism sector to ‘migrate’ between countries.
The agreement is expected to facilitate the movement and use of skilled labour among ASEAN member countries
The minister said the issue involves various aspects of immigration and security.

“The objective of Asean countries is to jointly promote tourism through a combined resource initiative but it will be a difficult plan to implement since different countries have different policies on foreign workers,” she said.
