ATOL shake-up on the cards
The CAA will release a consultation document next week as it prepares to shake-up the ATOL regulations.
Among the possible alternatives is for ATOL holders to pay a levy – similar to the scheme thrown out by the House of Lords earlier this week.
Association of Independent Tour Operators director Noel Josephides said it was one of the schemes under discussion.
“We don’t know what amount is being discussed but £1 per passenger makes sense,” he said. “But if it’s £5 or £10 customers just won’t pay.”
The consultation document is due to be published on Monday.
