Aussie arrested with gun at Koh Samui Airport
An Australian was arrested with a gun and nearly 100 rounds of ammunition in Koh Samui, Thailand.
Mark Bassett, 41 was apprehended at Samui Airport.
He claimed it was for self-defence.
He said he bought the weapon from a Thai man on Koh Samui.
Authorities said he smuggled the ‘gun-like object’ in separate pieces through airport security.
He was arrested on suspicion of ‘unauthorised possession of firearm parts and ammunition.’
Bassett could face prison if convicted.
An Israeli visitor was recently sentenced to 18 months in a Thai prison for transporting ammunition in his bag.
