Australia beefs up cruise ship security
Cruise ship passengers in Australia can now be frisked by security officers, under legislation passed by parliament.
The bill, which changes maritime and aviation security law, is the Australian federal government’s latest counter-terrorism measure.
Ship security officers now have the power to frisk passengers – powers which already exist for plane travellers.
Changes to aviation security include empowering the relevant minister to add to the list of items not allowed on aircraft.
