Avis leisure sales boss takes up trek challenge in her mother’s memory
Lisa McAuley, Avis head of UK leisure sales and partnerships, is joining a four-day trek of Machu Picchu next month in memory of her mother.
She is undertaking the challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, who provided much needed support when her mother died in January 2007, having been diagnosed with cancer just four weeks earlier.
“Macmillan and also the hospice staff where Mum spent her last two weeks made Mum and all the family feel as if we were the centre of the universe, despite probably having a number of cases on the go,” said McAuley.
“No question was deemed too silly, no request denied, every opinion and desire accommodated – even my Mum’s request for a cheeky brandy every now and then!
“I can’t speak highly enough of them and remember feeling humbled that they went to work every day and had to face cancer in some shape or form.”
McAuley will join 49 other intrepid travellers on the Peru trek.
“I’m particularly looking forward to day two at Dead Woman’s Pass,” added McAuley. “All this at altitude and with neither toilet nor shower facilities plus basic camping – it’s not a walk in the park!”
