Awaycationing replaces staycationing, says Thomson
Thomson Holidays claims the staycationing craze is on the wain as its customers opt for experiential, awaycationing experiences for 2010.
The operator said high demand holidays to India, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia this summer show that Brits are fed up with spending their holidays on home turf and are now just as much seeking adventure and new experience as they are value for money.
It added that far-flung countries also attract customers as they are not in the pricey eurozone.
Managing director Thomson and First Choice Dermot Blastland said: “Our latest figures show that Brits are determined to take a real break this summer and its awaycations all the way – not just sun and sand, but new cultures and locations.
“Consumers who hung back last year are more confident about spending this year and are benefiting from better deals outside of the Eurozone. Our research shows that people are saying cobblers to the staycation, we need a proper holiday this year.”
